Hong Kong Lounge

Carpeted floors, glistening chandeliers, and mirrors lining salmon-pink walls make Hong Kong Lounge feel like the lovechild of a glitzy conference room and a classic Chinese banquet hall. It’s the setting for excellent Cantonese dim sum staples, and families and groups of friends who pack the place daily and spin steamers and bowls of garlicky pea shoots around lazy susans. Plump siu mai, sweet baked pork buns, and xiao long bao are standbys on every table, along with heartier fried sticky rice, and noodle rolls with XO sauce. Even if there’s a crowd huddled in the entryway of this Richmond spot waiting for a table (and there will be on weekends), things move efficiently. This place never disappoints, especially when the need for a last-minute group brunch strikes.

Pork & Shrimp Siu Mai

A gorgeous rendition of a classic. No complaints.

Fried Sticky Rice

Strips of lap cheong and whole peanuts on top make this rice dish shine. We could eat this for breakfast, lunch, dinner—including half-conscious, post-night-out meals at 2am—and never get tired of it.

Baked Pork Buns

The crunchy sugar crust on top gives these buns an extra touch of sweetness that’s balanced by a savory pork filling, which oozes out when you bite into it.

P/F Noodle Roll In XO Sauce

Hong Kong Lounge’s take on the pan-fried noodle dish is less crispy than other versions around town and more bouncy and soft, which we love. Consider this review our official petition for bottles of the XO sauce with whole dried shrimp to be sold in stores.
