Damnfine

If you’re going to be laser-focused on making one thing, make it great. Case in point: Heath Ceramics producing dinnerware we’re sexually attracted to, or Dua Lipa dropping hit pop songs that may as well be straight injections of serotonin. At Damnfine, they’ve mastered the art of churning out excellent wood-fired pizzas.

At this Outer Sunset restaurant, there are ten pizzas on the menu, with toppings that range from slow-braised pork shoulder and Calabrian chiles to garlic butter and mushrooms. Whatever you get will arrive at your table hot out of the wood-fired oven on a thin, chewy crust, which is nicely golden-brown and holds up well to the toppings. Our go-to here is the classic pepperoni, which is blanketed in a layer of crispy, curled up pepperoni cups and goes perfectly with a side of their gooey hot honey or ranch. There are also a couple of salads on the menu, but they aren’t especially memorable - unless you’re feeling particularly vegetable deficient the day you show up, you can skip them.

Pizza aside, Damnfine has laidback energy, a full bar, and the vibe of a cool neighborhood spot you’ll want to chill at for a while with a cocktail, glass of wine, or a Damnfine Spritz (prosecco and blood orange soda). That’s because the open dining room is filled with light turquoise chairs and the walls are lined with big photos of city streets and the coast - so even if the Sunset gloom is doing its thing, it still feels bright and airy. Some nights, they also host DJs, making the space livelier.

Ultimately, the excellent pies and chill space at Damfine are what keep us coming back. Which is also why on any given night, tables are filled with everyone from couples on first dates to friends catching up on a random Tuesday. This pizza spot is well-suited for takeout, too, if you need to grab food on your way to Ocean Beach or for a movie night at home. Even if you’re just craving a great, fresh-out-of-the-oven pie, know that Damnfine will be there for you.

Pepperoni

The pepperonis on this pizza curl up and are crispy on the edges, which is always a plus in our book. And yes, we fully endorse dunking every pie in Damnfine’s hot honey and ranch, but the sauces are especially delicious with this pizza.

Mushroom Dream

Funghi galore. This earthy, hearty white pie has garlic butter and four types of mushrooms, and it’s excellent.

Margherita

A classic, done in a way that’s hard to top. The light, sweet tomato sauce really makes this.

Potato Pesto

If you’re a fan of alliteration (or great pizzas), you’ll like this one: it comes with purple potatoes, pancetta, and pesto. It’s also a hit.

Caesar Salad

There’s nothing special about this salad. Your $13 is probably spent better on a cocktail or glass of wine - but if you’re really in need of some greens, don’t let us stop you.
